Could the Legendary GT-R Make a Comeback as an EV?

Nissan has sparked excitement among car enthusiasts with hints about an electric version of its legendary GT-R. Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s global product strategy officer, recently suggested that the iconic GT-R might continue in the EV era. Last October, Nissan gave us a glimpse of this potential future with the Hyper Force EV concept, a high-performance electric sports car.

The Hyper Force EV, though it resembles a sleek, futuristic version of the Tesla Cybertruck, promises extraordinary power. It’s equipped with an all-solid-state battery and can produce up to 1,341 horsepower, significantly surpassing Tesla’s Cybertruck Cyberbeast, which tops out at 845 hp.

Developed with input from Nissan’s NISMO racing team, the Hyper Force features advanced aerodynamic elements like a rear diffuser and front fender lips. Despite not explicitly calling it the GT-R, a blurred “GT-R” logo on the front hints at the car’s heritage.

Nissan’s global product strategy boss hinted that high-performance models like the GT-R will likely become electrified due to brand direction and regulatory pressures. With the recent discontinuation of the R35 GT-R in North America, an electric GT-R might be on the horizon. What do you think? Would you be excited to see a GT-R EV?
