As a follow-up to last year’s decision by Congress to commit $7.5 billion in government funding for EV charging stations, officials from the Biden Administration met with automotive company leaders in April to discuss the logistics of building a network of 500,000 chargers across America.

According to reporting by Reuters, “The administration said in a statement ‘there was broad consensus that charging stations and vehicles need to be interoperable and provide a seamless user experience, no matter what car you drive or where you charge your EV.’… Biden wants at least 50% of new vehicles by 2030 to be EVs or plug-in hybrids.”

Officials from the White House included Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy and Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu.

Auto executives in attendance included the CEOs of Tesla Inc., General Motors, Ford Motor, Chrysler-parent Stellantis, Lucid, and Nissan America, along with executives from Hyundai Motor America, Subaru of America, Mazda North America, Toyota Motor North America Mercedes-Benz USA, and Kia Motors America.
