Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck Claims Victory at Pikes Peak

by | Jul 16, 2024 | High Performance | 0 comments

The Ford Performance F-150 Lightning SuperTruck demonstrated its prowess by achieving the fastest pass among 61 competitors at the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Piloted by Romain Dumas, the Electric Vehicle demonstrator conquered America’s Mountain with a time of 8:53.553.

A Remarkable Achievement

This victory marks the second successful appearance of a Ford EV demonstrator at Pikes Peak, following the debut of SuperVan 4.2 in 2023. Dumas, who holds the overall record for the Race to the Clouds, expertly navigated the 1,600hp F-150 Lightning SuperTruck despite encountering a technical issue that added a 26-second delay.

Overcoming Challenges

The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck’s success came after setting a new qualifying record for the Open Class, with a time of 3:32.831, surpassing the previous record set by SuperVan 4.2 in 2023. Dumas’ quick thinking and determination allowed him to complete a full reset and continue his climb, securing the top spot among all competitors.

The collaboration with STARD (Stohl Advanced Research and Development) was crucial in creating the 1,600+ horsepower Electric Demonstrator, equipped with Sparco racing harnesses, safety equipment, and bespoke Pirelli P-Zero tires.
Sriram Pakkam, Formula 1 & High-Performance EV Manager at Ford Performance Motorsports, highlighted the team’s meticulous attention to detail. “Achieving this feat was a true team effort, from our aerodynamicists to our powertrain specialists,” he noted.
